Congratulations to the inaugural WCODS-Cochrane Oral Health Innovative Poster Award winners!

The 4th Annual Wikipedia Collaboration of Dental Schools took place on the 7th of March 2020 at the University of Dundee with over 90 student delegates and staff attending from the Universities of Dundee, Glasgow, Queen’s Belfast and Aberdeen, and the International Medical University in Malaysia. The Wikipedia Collaboration of Dental Schools has been established to bring student teams together to update and expand dental Wikipedia with current, up-to-date, evidence-based information

The aim of the one-day meeting was to look at the many different ways in which Wikipedia can be used as a tool in the dissemination of public knowledge. Three keynote speakers also shared their perspectives on Evidence-Based Dentistry. Delegates were given the opportunity to share about their journey, research and main takeaways as Wikipedia Editors in the form of an oral or poster presentation. A prize sponsored by Cochrane Oral Health was awarded to the best poster presentation.

Grace Lim and her Wikipedia group took home the “WCODS-Cochrane Oral Health Innovative Poster Award”. Their poster presentation demonstrated high levels of enthusiasm, proactivity, and engagement with their Wiki teammates, supervisors and the collaboration during the course of the year.

Grace’s team - shown above presenting their poster to Cochrane Oral Health Co-ordinating Editor Jan Clarkson - consisted of 1st and 2nd-year Dental Wiki students. When asked about their thoughts on the day, they reported, “The 4th Annual Dental Editing Wikipedia Conference has greatly enhanced our appreciation for the ways in which evidence is used in different aspects of Oral Care. It was also incredible witnessing dental students not just from different parts of the UK but also from Malaysia sharing the same passion for making an impact on the general population through making content on Wikipedia evidence-based, up-to-date and patient-friendly. We are proud to have won the poster prize and would like to extend our gratitude to Cochrane Oral Health for sponsoring the award!”
